Less than a week to Christmas, and we are solidly in to the ‘terrible music’ part of the holiday. Just the mention of Noddy Holder is enough to make me twitch with rage, and you don’t want to be around if someone puts Mariah Carey on. It seems that as a rule Christmas songs written in the past century are terrible, but there are of course some exceptions. One is the above, ‘Stop the Cavalry’ by Jonah Lewie, which reached number 3 in the UK charts on Christmas 1980. It comes from his superbly-named album ‘On the Other Hand There’s a Fist’. More tomorrow.
Also, just to set the record straight, the greatest Christmas movie ever made is not Love Actually or any of its ilk, but Die Hard. Yes, it is a Christmas movie.
